    IN A SPEECH TONIGHT LORD HOME SAID THAT BRITAIN WOULD NOT SULK AND RETIRE FROM THE GAME AFTER THE COLLAPSE OF THE COMMON MARKET TALKS. LORD HOME HAD TRAVELLED TO BRUSSELS TO ADDRESS THE ANGLO-BELGIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

    HE TOLD THEM BRITAIN WOULD PUSH AHEAD WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF THE EUROPEAN FREE TRADE ASSOCIATION, THE OUTER SEVEN, WORKING IN PARALLEL WITH THE COMMON MARKET AND DOING ALL THEY COULD TO NARROW THE GAP BETWEEN THEM. AND HE AGAIN WARNED AGAINST A VISION OF EUROPE AS A THIRD FORCE BETWEEN RUSSIA AND AMERICA, A EUROPE INTROSPECTIVE AND EXCLUSIVE, NARCISSUS-LIKE IN ITS SELF-GLORY.

    IN BONN, DR. ADENAUER HAS EMPHASISED HIS SUPPORT FOR BRITAIN'S ENTRY INTO THE COMMON MARKET. HE SAID HE WAS CLEARLY IN FAVOUR OF BRITAIN'S ENTRY INTO THE COMMON MARKET. HE SAID HE WAS CLEARLY IN FAVOUR OF BRITAIN'S ENTRY. IN WASHINGTON, PRESIDENT KENNEDY SAID TONIGHT THAT AMERICA WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BRITAIN'S FAILURE TO ENTER. HE SAID IT WOULD BE A DISASTER IF EUROPE AND AMERICA BECAME DIVIDED. AND HE ADDED THAT MUST NOT TAKE PLACE.

    AND IN LONDON, MR. MACMILLAN, THE PREMIER, HAS DECIDED TO ASK THE COMMONS FOR A VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN THE GOVERNMENT FOLLOWING THE TALKS BREAKDOWN IN BRUSSELS. IT WILL BE PUT NEXT WEEK.
