A literally underground art show in the huge parking lot built recently under Rome's borg???se gardens has become a temporary cultural centre for the Italian capital. The exhibit, which opened in december and will last through february has been organized by a group called international Art Encounters, and includes a cinema, as well as both a theatre and a ballet stage in which both italian and visiting foreign groups perform. The art show, itself, an enormously spread-out exhibit that includes works by some of the 20th centuries most important artists as well as political manifestos and pictorial sociological essays, has taken advantage of the new garage's failure to attract business. Romans have just not responded and the gigantic municipally-sponsored garage is almost totally empty most of the time. Perhaps visitors to the arty show will continue to use the garage once "Contemporanea" has concluded.
