  • Description

About 250 Communists demonstrated outside the new United States Embassy in New Delhi, India, April 21, and shouted abuse at the US and President Kennedy for supporting the recent abortive invasion of Cuba.

They dodged police and ran to the back of the Embassy, where they hurled stones into the building. They clashed with the police - and demonstrators thereupon labelled the police "agents of the imperialists". Other demonstrators marched in front of the Embassy shouting such slogans as "Death to Kennedy" and "Down with American imperialists". The incidents lasted about two hours ... then the demonstrators dispersed.

Addressing the Indian Parliament earlier, Prime Minister Nehru said Cuba should be left to work out her own destiny without intervention from any side.
