  • Description

A crowd estimated at 100,000 including foreign visitors, was filmed by VISNEWS June 14 at Croke Park stadium, Dublin, attending the Diamond Jubilee Rally of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association, founded 1899 by Father James Cullen.

Pioneers from America, Africa, Britain and other parts of the Commonwealth were present. Much in evidence were the badges and banners of the Association.

The Rally began as processions moved into the stadium - later filled to capacity - from different parts of the city. Among those present was Cardinal Dalton, Primate of all Ireland, and one of the addresses was given by the Most Rev.Dr.Conway. Bishop of Neve.

Since its inception sixty years ago 400,000 people have joined the Associations fight to convert drunkards.
