    MALAYSIA AND THE U.N. SURVEY IN SARAWAK ... WITH THE FEDERATION POSTPONED FOR A FEW WEEKS, THE U.N. TEAM THERE THIS WEEK DECIDED TO STAY ON FOR THREE MORE DAYS.

    THEY HAVE BEEN SOUNDING OPINION AND LOOKING INTO THE VALIDITY OF THE ELECTIONS THAT BROUGHT VICTORY TO PRO-MALAYSIAN PARTIES IN THE BRITISH COLONY.

    THE TWO COUNTRIES THAT OPPOSE THE FEDERATION, INDONESIA AND THE PHILIPPINES HAVE ALSO SENT IN OBSERVERS. THE INDONESIANS, EIGHT OF THEM, FLEW IN ON SUNDAY.

    THEY WERE ACCOMPANIED BY A PHILIPPINES TEAM AND WERE GREETED AT KUCHING AIRPORT BY MR. MICHELMORE, THE AMERICAN LEADER OF THE U.N. TEAM, AND OBSERVERS FROM BRITAIN AND MALAYA, THE TWO SPONSORS OF MALAYSIA.

    THE U.N. SURVEY HAS ALSO BEEN ASSESSING PUBLIC OPINION IN NORTH BORNEO, THE OTHER BRITISH COLONY JOINING THE FEDERATION.

    IN BOTH COLONIES, SECURITY PRECAUTIONS HAVE BEEN STEPPED UP OVER REPORTS THAT VIOLENCE IS BEING PLANNED BY UNDERGROUND ORGANISATION AFTER THE RIOTS OF LAST WEEK WHICH MARKED THE VISIT OF THE U.N. TEAM TO TWO TOWNS.
