    TRAFFIC WAS HALTED TEMPORARILY THURSDAY EVENING AS PRO-MAO "RED GUARDS" MARCHED THROUGH THE CENTRE OF WEST BERLIN IN A DEMONSTRATION OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE CZECHOSLOVAK PEOPLE. THEY WERE PROTESTING THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE WARSAW PACT INTERVENTION. THE MARCH WAS PEACEFUL.

    THE MARCHERS STOPPED DOZENS OF CARS AND LORRIES ON KURFUERSTENDAMM AVENUE, THE CITY'S MAIN THOROUGHFARE.

    THE "RED GUARDS" WERE JOINED BY A PRO-STALINIST GROUP WHICH CALL THEMSELVES "SPARTACUS". THE MARCH ENDED AT THE ALLIED CENTRAL AUTHORITY. POLICE WERE OUT IN FORCE BUT IT PASSED WITHOUT INCIDENT.

    THE BANNERS DISPLAYED INCLUDED SUCH SLOGANS AS "DOWN WITH THE NEW CZARS" AND "HANDS OFF CHINA". MANY HELD ALOFT THE "LITTLE RED BOOK" OF CHAIRMAN MAO TSE-TUNG.
