  • Description

American's Hugh Wiley, riding 'Nautical', won the King George V Gold Cup international jumping event at the International Horse Show, White City, London, July 22.

Twenty-one horses started in the competition, but only six gained a clear round. Great excitement and appreciation war displayed by the 24,000 crowd as 'Nautical', with tail swishing furiously, again cleared all obstacles. In a further jump off with Senor F. Goyoago of Spain riding 'Toscanella', 'Nautical' again exhibited his supreme action when jumping against the clock. 'Toscanella' made edith faults.

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who had watched the competition with Princess Margaret and the Princess Royal, presented the cup to Hugh Wiley.

Riding 'Master William', Hugh Wiley won the King George V Golden Cup in last year's International Horse Show. He and 'Nautical' won the first international event of this year's show - the Manifesto Stakes - July 20.

Equal third place was shared by W. Wofford (USA) on 'Pat's Sister', and E. Bull (Norway) on 'Advantage'.
