In most places town criers are a thing of the past but the 3000 townspeople of Sechura in northern Peru would be lost without theirs.

SYNOPSIS: Set in the middle of the desert 1100 kilometres (685 miles) north of the capital, Lima, Sechura has no radio or TV and very few newspapers find their way there. But the people aren't bored or out of touch - thanks to the ingenuity of Leonicio Vega. Using his bicycle as the main component Leonicio assembled his own mobile broadcasting studio and every evening tours the town to deliver the latest news. In between bulletins of who's been born, married or died he plays a few records just like any city disc jockey.

And like any city disc jockey he has his fair share of adoring teeny boppers who follow him from street to street, perhaps hoping that one day they too might be stars like Leonicio
From the outside world he also brings news of disasters, politics and scandals. Here he's giving his listeners a blow by blow description of how the local football team fared against a team from across the desert. To maintain his equipment Leonicio charges his listeners a small fee, gladly paid for the enjoyment he brings.
