  • Description

Jack Brabham, Australia's world champion, won the New Zealand Grand Prix, at Auckland Jan 7, in a works Cooper at an average speed of 87,8 miles an hour.

His win was a narrow one - from Bruce McLaren of Auckland, also in a Cooper, 1,7 seconds behind. Graham Hill in a BRM was third in this 150-mile race.

Stirling Moss led from the fifth to the 33rd lap, then his Lotus Climax suffered transmission trouble. Moss retired, so did Innes Ireland, and John Surtees of the Lotus team - with the same trouble.
