CROWDS IN BUENOS AIRES, MARCH 19, ROCKED BY THE NEWS OF PERONIST VICTORIES ON THE PREVIOUS DAY'S GENERAL ELECTION, ANXIOUSLY AWAITED NEWS OF HOW THE GOVERNMENT PROPOSED TO COOPERATE IN THE SITUATION.

ARGENTINE PRESIDENT ARTURO FRONDIZI HELD MEETING ALL DAY AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE WITH CABINET AND MILITARY LEADERS. INTERIOR MINISTER DR. ALFREDO VITOLO, WHO HAD BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DECISION TO ALLOW PERONISTS TO RUN IN THE ELECTION, WAS PRESENT AT THE MEETINGS. HOWEVER, WHEN THE DECISION WAS TAKEN TO NULLIFY THE ELECTION OF 25 PERONISTS TO CONGRESS AND 10 TO PROVINCIAL GOVERNORSHIPS, DR. VITOLO RESIGNED FROM HIS POST.

AFTER TWO DAYS OF MEETING, A CIVILIAN MILITARY COALITION WAS ANNOUNCED MARCH 21 IN AN EFFORT TO STRENGTHEN THE GOVERNMENT AGAINST THE PARTY OF EX-PRESIDENT JUAN PERON. THE PERONISTS HAVE CALLED A STRIKE OF ALL PRO-PERON UNIONISTS MARCH 23. PERON HIMSELF, IN EXILE IN SPAIN, HAS REFUSED TO COMMENT PUBLICLY ON THE ELECTIONS, BUT IS SAID TO FEEL THAT HE NOW WAS THE SUPPORT OF BETWEEN 6 AND 13 MILLION VOTERS IN ARGENTINA.
