HE'D JUST RECEIVED A SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM THE ALGERIAN PRIME MINISTER, COLONEL HOUARI BOUMEDIENNE. IT WAS COLONEL BOUMEDIENNE'S FIRST MESSAGE TO GENERAL IRONSI SINCE THE MILITARY GOVERNMENT TOOK OVER LAST JANUARY. ITS CONTENTS WERE NOT DISCLOSED.

    THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE ALGERIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY, MAHMED LAIDI, WAITED FOUR DAYS FOR HIS MEETING WITH GENERAL IRONSI. BEFORE ARRIVING IN NIGERIA, MAHMED LAIDI DELIVERED NOTES TO THE HEADS OF STATE OF THE IVORY COAST AND SENEGAL. HE LEFT LAGOS IMMEDIATELY AFTER HIS MEETING WITH GENERAL IRONSI IN THE STATE HOUSE WITH ANOTHER MESSAGE FOR PRESIDENT MODIBO KEITA OF MALI.

    AT THEIR MEETING, GENERAL IRONSI SAID: "OUR BELIEF IS THAT ALL MEMBER STATES SHOULD LIVE IN PEACE WITH ONE ANOTHER AND THE OAU SHOULD BE STRENGTHENED IN ORDER TO MAKE ITS VOICE HEARD."
    EARLIER, M. LAIDI SAID ALGERIA'S POLICY WAS TO STRENGTHEN RELATIONS WITH AFRICAN COUNTRIES AND WORK FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE OAU. "WE WILL DO OUR UTMOST TO KEEP THE OAU ALIVE," HE SAID.
