THE STRIKERS CLAIM THAT THE TELANGANA REGION WHICH BECAME PART OF THE ANDHRA STATE IN 1956 IS NOT GETTING A FAIR DEAL. THEY WANT TO BECOME INDEPENDENT FROM THAT STATE.

FEMALE PICKETS PARADED OUTSIDE THE SECRETARIAT BUILDING AND OTHER GOVERNMENT OFFICES. OTHER WORKERS WENT ON HUNGER STRIKES. IN ALL IT IS ESTIMATED THAT MORE THAN 150,000 WORKERS WENT ON STRIKE.

TOWARDS THE END OF THE DEMONSTRATION AGITATORS STONED STATE OWNED BUSES AND THE POLICE MOVED IN.

THE INDIAN GOVERNMENT HAS REJECTED THE SEPARATIST DEMAND AND PRIME MINISTER MRS. INDIRA GANDHI SAID ANY SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM MUST KEEP IN VIEW "THE UNITY AND INTEGRITY OF THE STATE OF ANDHRA."
