    A CONFERENCE OF AFRICAN CENTRAL BAKERS IN ACCRA, GHANA, HAS AGREED ON ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION AIMED AT CREATING A CONTINENTAL MONEY SYSTEM IN WHICH ALL AFRICAN CURRENCIES WOULD BE ACCEPTED. AT THE CLOSING ON TUESDAY THE GOVERNOR OF THE BANK OF GHANA, MR. J. H. FRIMPONG-ANSAH, CHAIRMAN OF THE CONFERENCE, SAID: "I HOPE WHATEVER WE HAVE DECIDE HERE WILL YIELD MAXIMUM DIVIDENDS FOR THE CONTINENT ON WHICH WE LIVE."
    ALTHOUGH ONLY GHANA AND ETHIOPIA SIGNED THE ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION, A FURTHER 10 COUNTRIES REPRESENTATIVES INITIALLED THEIR APPROVAL PENDING RATIFICATION BY THEIR BOARDS. UNDER THE TERMS OF THE ASSOCIATION, 14 SIGNATORIES ARE REQUIRED BEFORE AN ASSOCIATION CAN BE SET UP. THE AIM IS TO ENABLE EASY TRANSFER ARRANGEMENTS BETWEEN CENTRAL BANKS.

    THE ASSOCIATION WILL BE OPEN TO FOUNDER MEMBERS UNTIL THE END OF THIS YEAR AND IT IS PLANNED TO HOLD HE FIRST MEETING IN 1969. MOROCCO HAS OFFERED RABAT AS THE SITE OF THE INAUGURAL MEETING THOUGH ADDIS ABABA, BASE OF THE UNITED NATIONS ECONOMIC COMMISSION FOR AFRICA, IS ALSO A POSSIBLE VENUE. THE COUNTRIES WHICH INITIALISED THE AGREEMENT WERE BURUNDI, CONGO-KINSHASA, KENYA, MALAWI, MAURITIUS, NIGERIA, SIERRA LEONE, SOMALIA. SUDAN AND TANZANIA.
