Background: COLONEL AFRIFA, THE MEMBER OF GHANA'S RULING NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL (N.L.C.) RESPONSIBLE FOR TRADE, FINANCE AND ECONOMIC AFFAIRS, SAID ON SATURDAY THAT IT WAS SHAMEFUL THAT THE OUSTED NKRUMAH REGIME HAD SOUGHT TO IMPOSE ITS WISHES, BY SUBVERSION, ON GHANA'S IMMEDIATE NEIGHBOURS AND ON OTHER NATIONS. COLONEL AFRIFA WAS SPEAKING AT THE IVORY COAST NATIONAL DAY AT THE GHANA INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR IN ACCRA.

COLONEL AFRIFA SAID THAT BECAUSE OF THE EFFORTS OF THE FORMER REGIME, RELATIONS BETWEEN THE IVORY COST AND GHANA HAD BECOME STRAINED. HE SAID THAT THE SIZE OF THE IVORY COAST DELEGATION WAS A SURE SIGN THAT THE TIES WHICH BOUND THE TWO COUNTRIES HAD BEEN RESTORED. COLONEL AFRIFA ALSO CALLED FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A COMMON MARKET BETWEEN THE IVORY COAST AND GHANA.

THE IVORY COAST FINANCE MINISTER, MI KONAM BEDIE, SAID THAT THE IVORY COAST'S PRESENCE WOULD RE-INFORCE RELATIONS WITH GHANA, AND HE FORECAST A BRIGHT FUTURE FOR RELATIONS BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES. THE TRADE FAIR, HE SAID, GAVE IMPORTANT BUSINESSMEN FROM ALL PARTS OF THE WORLD THEIR FIRST OPPORTUNITY IN GHANA TO MEET EACH OTHER WITHOUT DISTINCTION OF POLITICAL REGIME OR ECONOMIC SYSTEM.

THE TRADE FAIR, WHICH RAN FOR 19 DAYS ENDED ON SUNDAY.
