NAVAL UNITS IN THE AREA INCLUDE THE FRIGATES "KORTENAER" AND "EVERTSEN", AND THE TORPEDO PATROL BOATS "FRIESLAND", "LIMBURG", "GRONINGEN", AND "UTRECHT".

    THEIR AIM IS TO PREVENT FURTHER GROUPS OF INDONESIAN VOLUNTEERS ARRIVING IN WEST NEW GUINEA (WHICH PRESIDENT SOEKARNO HAS RENAMED WEST IRIAN). THIS FILM - TAKEN RECENTLY - SHOWS THE "KORTENAER" OFF THE SMALL SETTLEMENT OF KAIMANA.

    "KORTENAER", COMPLETED IN 1943, CARRIES TEN GUNS, EIGHT TORPEDO LAUNCHING TUBES AND DEPTH-CHANGES. SIGNALS WERE EXCHANGED WITH THE "GRONINGEN", AND BOTH SHIPS PROCEEDED TO A RENDEZVOUS AT SEA BETWEEN KAIMANA AND FAK-FAK ON THE SOUTH COAST. A SLOOP FROM THE "GRONINGEN" ALSO TOOK PART.

    MAY 20, GENERAL NASUTION, THE INDONESIAN DEFENCE MINISTER, SAID IN DJAKARTA THAT THE ENTIRE ARMED FORCES WERE NOW READY TO LIBERATE THE TERRITORY FROM "DUTCH COLONIALISM AND IMPERIALISM".
