  • Description

CANADIAN TROOPS, THE FIRST OF THE UNITED NATIONS FORCE TO ARRIVE IN CYPRUS, ARE NOW PATROLLING THE ISLAND. THESE PATROLS ARE NECESSARY TO FAMILIARISE THE SOLDIERS WITH THE LOCATIONS OF BOTH GREEK-CYPRIOT & TURKISH-CYPRIOT VILLAGES.

VILLAGERS ALONG THE ROADSIDE YESTERDAY (SATURDAY) CHEERED WHEN THE BLUE-HELMETED CANADIANS TRAVELLED TOGETHER WITH BRITISH UNITS ALONG THE MAIN ROAD TO KYRENIA, IN THE NORTH OF THE ISLAND.

THE ROAD IS CONTROLLED LARGELY BY TURKISH-CYPRIOT FORCED. A SPOKESMAN FOR THEM SAID YESTERDAY THAT GREEKS WERE MASSING FORCES IN THE AREA IN AN APPARENT BID TO CUT OFF THE MAIN TURKISH-CYPRIOT ROADS.

ANOTHER PATROL INSPECTED GREEK AND TURKISH STRONG-HOLDS AROUND NICOSIA, THE CYPRUS CAPITAL. HERE, FIGHTING HAS BEEN PARTICULARLY FIERCE WITH RACE FIGHTING RACE, NEIGHBOUR FIGHTING NEIGHBOUR.
