    PRESIDENT KAUNDA OF ZAMBIA RECENTLY OPENED AN EXHIBITION OF ZAMBIAN SCULPTURE AT THE COLLEGE OF FURTHER EDUCATION IN LUSAKA. IN HIS SPEECH HE SAID HE HOPED THE EXHIBITION WOULD BE THE FORERUNNER OF MANY, AT HOME ABROAD.

    THE PRESIDENT SAID THAT HE AND HIS GOVERNMENT ATTACHED GREAT IMPORTANCE TO THE ARTS AND NO ONE COULD BE IN ANY DOUBT AS TO THE ENCOURAGEMENT GIVEN TO ARTISTS SINCE ZAMBIA GAINED INDEPENDENCE. HE ADDED: "EDUCATION BEGINS AT HOME, AND FOR A MAN TO APPRECIATE THE CULTURE OF THE WORLD IN GENERAL, HE CAN BEST START BY STUDYING AND APPRECIATING OF HIS HOME LAND."
    THE EXHIBITION WAS SPONSORED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL SERVICES, AND TRADITIONAL ARTS OF AFRICA, LIMITED. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF TRADITIONAL ARTS. MR. DENNIS ERWIN, WAS AT THE OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION.

    THREE TYPES OF ZAMBIAN SCULPTURE WERE ON DISPLAY -- CLASSICAL ZAMBIAN SCULPTURE FROM THE LIVINGSTONE MUSEUM, CONTEMPORARY SCULPTURE, AND MASS-PRODUCED TOURIST SOUVENIRS.

    THE MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND POSTAL SERVICES, MR. LOUIS CHANGUFU, ALSO SPOKE AT THE OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION.
