  • Description

Marking the World war two Liberation of Paris 16 year ago, French Minister for Ex-servicemen, Raymond Triboulet, greeted French war veterans Aug 24 on parade - on the spot where the German garrison surrendered.

This was outside the Gare Montparnasse rail station, now a busy terminal in the peak of the Summer season, but then a grim bullet-spattered landmark of recent memories of the transportation of German troops and war material.

With M. Triboulet at the ceremony was the widow of General Jacques Philippe Leclerc, later Marshal of France, who liberated the city at the head of Free French troops. The Minister and Madame Leclerc laid a wreath on the Leclerc monument.
