Background: America carried off yet another of the major trophies at the International Horse Show, White City Stadium, London, July 23. Its national team of four riders won the Prince of Wales Cup, totalling 20 points for the two rounds.
Spain was second with 23 points and Great Britain third with 24. Ireland was the only other team competing.
After a clear round by W. Steinkraus, riding 'Riviera Wonder' and with the fabulous combination of Hugh Wiley on 'Nautical' yet to come, America had little to fear. At one point Great Britain could have tied by gaining a clear round, but unfortunately 'Flanagan' ridden by Pat Smyths, put a foot in the water, and put paid to British hopes.
The Duke of Gloucester presented the cup.
Winning teams; W. Steinkraus on 'Riviera Wonder'
Hugh Wiley on 'Nautical'
F. Cnapot on 'Tally Ho'
G. Morris on 'Night Owl'.
