A plot by a small group of Negro extremists to blow up U. S. national?
A plot by a small group of Negro extremists to blow up U. S. national monuments was broken up Tuesday (16 February) by New York City police, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Royal Canadian Police.
Major credit for exposing the plot, which led to four arrests was given to New York City Patrolman Raymond Wood, 31, who infiltrated the group.
Police said explosives for the plot were brought to New York Monday (15 February) by Miss Michelle Duclos, 26, of Montreal, a member of an organization seeking secession of the Province of Quebec from the rest of Canada. She is white.
The three others arrested, all of them Negro men, included the self-styled leader of the Black Liberation Front, Robert Collier.
Police said the 30 sticks of dynamite the group had were enough to blow the head off the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbour. The statue was to be one of the targets, along with the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and the Washington Monument in Washington, D. C.
