    Australian surfers are expected to maintain their dominance of top-class surfing during the Pro-Am championships in Hawaii later this month ( 18- 30 ) November.

    Australian surfers have won three out of the last five championships.

    Thirty of the top men's surfers int he world will compete.

    For the second year ladies will be competing against them for the $ 11,000 (about 4,700 sterling) prize money.

    About thirty men and six ladies will gather on the island of Ohau. They will come from Peru, Tahiti, the United States, South Africa and Australia.

    Already, some of the top surfers are on the island practicing in what is regarded as the largest rideable surf in the world.

    They include last year's winner, Ian Cairns from Australia and his top challenger, Hawaiian Jeff Hakman.
