  • Description

The long-line of British administrators on the Mediterranean island of Malta was broken today (Saturday) when Sir Maurice Dorman, Governor-General until last week, left the island to return to British. His earlier resignation had been in accordance with the desire of newly elected Prime Minister Dom Mintoff to appoint a Maltese Governor-General.

So Sir Maurice's departure is part of the major shake-up in the island since Mr Mintoff's Labour Party came to power last month, ousting the Nationalists led by Dr Borg Olivier. Dr Olivier was among officials watching as Sir Maurice left. So was the acting Governor-General Sir Anthony Mamo. But Prime Minister Mintoff was not there.
