TRANSCRIPT: SEQ. 1: SHARRIF: "Once more the Israelis prove that they are as barbaric as they used to be. This morning their fighter bombers attacked the refugee camp in Bourj el-Barjneh and Damour area with rockets and heavy machine guns. The Israeli attacks, which have become a regular thing, should prove to the world public opinion that the Israelis do not want peace on this earth, but they are also after material liquidation for the Palestinian civilians living in the camps. And I think that these camps are now very well known to the world public opinion. They are very well known to have civilians living in huts, in poor condition, and they can see...the world public opinion can see now what is the meaning of raiding, air raiding these camps and in particular this morning. We will not cry, but we will escalate out activities against the Israeli enemy and that should prove to the whole world that peace will never be achieved in the Middle East if the Palestinian problem is not solved, if the palestinian people's rights are not taken, and if the Palestinian people does not return to its homeland Palestine."

London experts investigating Sunday's attack on El Al airline coach have reportedly linked the incident to Baghdad-based groups, rather than any of the mainstream Palestinian groups. One source said this view was reinforced by the communique, claiming responsibility for the attack, which sharply attacked the British authorities. This follows a bitter diplomatic dispute between the Iraqi and British Governments and the source said the London attack may have appealed to a Baghdad group as a means of striking two targets with one blow.

Background: In Lebanon, a radical Palestinian Group has said it will escalate its activities against Israel. The warning came from the hard-line Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and was prompted by the Israeli raid on Monday (21 August) on two Palestinian refugee settlements. The raid which reportedly killed three people and injured 14 men, women and children was in retaliation for Sunday's (20 August) terrorist attack on El Al airline staff in London. The P.F.L.P. has issued an angry statement dissociating itself completely from the London attack. And in Beirut on Monday, the Front's spokesman, Bassam Abou Sharrif, condemned the Israeli's retaliatory raid on Palestinian refugees.
