    Background: Nadi Airport -
The international gateway to Fiji. Jets arrive daily from Australia, New Zealand and North American, with connecting flights to island territories throughout the South Pacific. 97% of Fiji's tourists arrive and depart through Nadi International Airport. Last year (1971) 152,000 visitors spent an average of 7 1/2 days in the friendly relaxed Fiji islands.

    Suva -
Situated on the south east coast of Viti Levu - the largest of Fiji's 300 islands - is Suva, the capital and largest city. Here, passengers from cruise liners spend a full and exciting day exploring the markets and shopping for bargains in the scores of duty free shops that abound throughout the down-town shopping area.

With a population of over 60,000, Suva is a cosmopolitan port city of great charm and fascination. Here, Fijians, Indians, Chinese, Europeans and several Pacific Island races live and work in harmonious relationship.

An infinite variety of dress, customs and culture provide an atmosphere that is excitingly different.

    Tourism -
Tourism is big business and an important part of the Dominion's economy. More than half of Fiji's holiday visitors arrive from Australia or New Zealand, but an increasing number from America and Europe are discovering the still unspoilt attractions of the Fiji islands.

Hotels and resorts range from those suited to budget travellers to top class establishments with all comforts and facilities. These can range from a native style thatched bure to a luxury suite.

Off shore islands are easily accessible and a variety of cruise boats provide extended cruises or one day picnic jaunts to small beach encircled atolls.

It seems as though an increasing number of would-be Robinson Crusoes are find Fiji a rather special kind of experience.
