    GHANA'S OPPOSITION PARTY, THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF LIBERALS (NAL), HELD ITS FIRST CONGRESS IN KUMASI LAST WEEK (SATURDAY, 28 FEBRUARY).

    REVIEWING. THE ACTIVITIES OF THE PARTY SINCE ITS INAUGURATION, MR. IBRAHIM SAID THE NAL PARLIAMENTARY GROUP HAS SO FAR PERFORMED CREDITABLY. HE SAID ONE OF THE CAUSES OF THE PARTY'S DEFEAT IN THE GENERAL ELECTION WAS THAT MANY OF NAL'S SUPPORTERS HAD NOT REGISTERED TO CAST THEIR VOTES.

    IN HIS INAUGURAL ADDRESS, MR. W.H. BOOHENE, FIRST DEPUTY LEADER OF NAL, PAID TRIBUTE TO HIS PARTY FOR ITS PART IN GHANA'S PEACEFUL RETURN TO CIVILIAN RULE. HE CALLED ON NAL MEMBERS TO DEVOTE THEIR EFFORTS TO THE CAUSE OF THE PARTY AND THE WELFARE OF MEMBERS CONTINUE TO DEDICATE THEMSELVES TO THE SERVICE OF MANKIND.

    THE PARLIAMENTARY LEADER, DR. AGAMA, INTRODUCED NAL MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT TO DELEGATES AT THE CONGRESS.

    THE NATIONAL ALLIANCE OF LIBERALS WAS DEFEATED BY THE RULING PROGRESS PARTY, LED BY PRIME MINISTER, DR. KOFI BUSIA, AT THE LAST FEDERAL ELECTION IN AUGUST, 1969.
