Talks on the Angolan civil was were expected to be high on the priority of the Prime Minister of Guinea, Mr. Louis Lasana Beavogui, who arrived in Brazzaville on Thursday (12 February), for a three-day visit to the Congo.
The Prime Mister's visit comes at a time when Guinea, a former French colony, is beginning to extend its influence after a decade of near isolation.
In the past year, the west African republic has restored diplomatic relations with several western nations, most recently France, and according to official sources, negotiations are underway abroad to finance the country's first development plan.
The Congo itself has just undergone a political upheaval. Apart from President Marien Ngouabi, the only top minister to survive the changes was Louis Goma, who was made Prime Minister.
Mr. Beavogui said his forthcoming talks with Mr. Goma and Mr. Ngouabi would help improve relations between the two countries and give "solidarity to these progressive African countries."
