    The Soviet Union, he said will sign a peace treaty with East Germany if West Germany refuses to sign.

    Mr. k. said that those who did not wish to sign a treaty wanted to maintain a war situation. "We are fed up with wars. We need peace," he said.

    Turning to the Fair, he praise its commercial and political significance and claimed that Communist output and standards of living will outstrip the West during the next few years.

    Herr Ulbricht said if the Bon Government refused 14 years after the war to take part in a peace conference then the will of the East German population and the majority of the German people must be granted without Adenauer's approval.
