    On August 6th Moscow bade farewell to Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky, outstanding military leader, talented soldier, candidate member of the Soviet Communist Party Central Committee, Member of Parliament of the USSR, twice Hero of the Soviet Union.

    People from all walks of life came to Red Square for the funeral. There were marshals. admirals, generals and officers of the Soviet Army and Navy, government ministers, representatives of party and public organizations and war veterans.

    Army, navy and air attaches of the foreign embassies were also present.

    The funeral cortege stopped near the Lenin Mausoleum.

    The casket containing the ashes of the late Marshal Rokossovsky was lifted from the gun carriage and placed on the pedestal.

    Leonid Brezhnev, Premier Alexei Kosygin, President Podgorny and other party and government leaders, as well as the delegation arrived from Poland, climbed up to the tribune on top of the Mausoleum, and the funeral meeting began.

    Speakers were Marshal of the Soviet Union Batitsky, Army General Sokolov, Mr. Borisov, secretary of the Moscow City/Committee of the Soviet Communist Party, Poland's Defence Minister Yaruselsky and Soviet Army general Luchinsky. All said that the deceased's name was indissolubly bound up with the heroic annals of the Soviet Army, that his life has been a brilliant example of devoted service to the motherland and the Communist cause.

    The meeting over, leaders of the Soviet Government an Communist Party lifted the casket and carried it towards the Kremlin Wall.

    As the guns fired a last salute, the casket was placed in a niche in the Wall and sealed with a marble slab.

    The band played the Soviet National Anthem.

    Soviet troops marched past the Mausoleum, paying the last military honours to Marshal Konstantin Rokossovsky.
