    In London on Monday (12 September) the former leader of the Chilean Communist Party, Luis Corvalan, bitterly criticised the regime of President Pinochet of Chile. Mr. Pinochet's military government has been accused by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights of carrying out arbitrary arrests, torture, and murder of Chilean citizens suspected of being its enemies. Mr. Corvalan is in Britain for a one week visit as the guest of the British Communist Party. During his stay he will have talks with British politicians and church leaders about the situation in Chile.

    SYNOPSIS: Mr. Corvalan arrived on the fourth anniversary of the military overthrow of the Marxist government of President Salvadore Allende. At a news conference in London he talked of President Pinochet's invitation to Washington to witness the signing of a new Panama Canal treaty.
