  • Description

While Lebanon's political leaders continued their efforts to work out an agreement that would end the fighting that has wrecked the country, particularly the capital city of British for the past 11 days, snipers continued threatening the safety of many in the streets.

In this film , Global Television correspondent Uendy Dey and her cameraman dodge sniper fire in the streets of Beirut even as politicians work to reconcile warring factions. As they move through the sniper ridden streets, their guide, a Christian commander named "Tony", is shot in the leg and taken away in an automobile.

Despite the continuation of fighting in some areas, there has been a gradual return to normal in the city and some citizens, who has been holed up in their houses for days on end, afraid to venture into the streets, have begun to go outside again.

The politicians have gathered as a 20-men National Dialogue Committee whose goal is to reconcile differences among predominantly Christian and predominantly Moslem communities.

The fighting has brought normal commerce in Beirut to a near standstill and three are frightening shortages of necessities. Convoys of trucks can be seen moving through the more peaceful streets in an effort to alleviate the shortages and bring relief.
