  • Description

Senator Stuart Symington, of Missouri, announced in Washington, March 24, that he would be prepared to stand as Democratic candidate in the forthcoming American Presidential election.

Joining Senator Kennedy of Massachusetts and Senator Humphrey of Minnesota in the primary contests for Democratic nomination as Presidential candidate, Senator Symington, 58, is believed to have the backing of ex-President Harry S. Truman, under whom he served as Secretary for Air.

During his seven years in the Senate he has been an unrelenting critic of the Government's defence politics. Symington has declared that, if Americans were to continue to enjoy their wonted way life, the next President must provide the free world with resourceful and decisive leadership.
