  • Description

An English colt, Grundy, won the richest-ever English Derby at Epsom Downs, England, on Wednesday (4 June).

Grundy, owned by an Italian doctor, Carlo Vittadini, and ridden by champion jockey, Pat Eddery, scored by three lengths from the French filly, Nobiliary.

Hunza Dancer was a further four lengths away in third place.

Grundy's victory netted his connections 106,000 pounds sterling, in prizemoney.

The colt was a well supported second favourite, and started at 5-1. The 6-4 favourite, French colt Green Dancer, was a disappointment and finished well back.

Pat Eddery gave Grundy the run of the race, and the horse was always amongst the leading division. He produced a paralysing 1???? furlong finishing burst to the line to win with complete authority.
