Background: Warrant Office Nef Eckman of the Swedish detachment with the U.N. Force told newsmen April 10 of his arrest and subsequent beatings by the Congolese Army two days previously.
He said that he and a comrade - Valter Myrhed - were driving in the outskirts of Leopoldville on April 8, when they were arrested by armed troops of the A.N.C., bundled into a lorry and taken to a camp at Kasangulu, some 50 km outside the capital, where they were interrogated and beaten before being released.
Eckman who comes from Bandhagen, Stockholm - said he would continue working for the United Nations after his term of duty with the Swedish Army expired in September.
