    Background: Five Canadian warships under the command of Capt. M.G.Stirling are welcomed in Tokyo. The warships attached to the 2nd Canadian Escort Squadron are on their way to participate in manoeuvres with the U.S. Navy in Far East waters.

    The visiting ships comprised five destroyers, the flagship Crescent, Cayuga, Skeena, Fraser, and Margaree. They carry a total complement of 75 officers and 1000 men.

    The ships will remain in Tokyo until the 17th. The Skeena is specially designed for nuclear warfare.

    In the afternoon of the 13th February Capt Stirling visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Office to receive from Governor Hajime Sato a key to the city of Tokyo.
