    In Accra, Ghana's David Poison became the new Commonwealth Featherweight Boxing Champion when he defeated reigning champion Evan Armstrong of Scotland on Sunday (8 December).

    Aggressive Poison (real name David Kotei) knocked out Armstrong in the tenth round.

    Armstrong took a mandatory eight count in the second round and spent the rest of the fight on the defensive. He received a cut on his forehead in the seventh round and a cut lip in the ninth.

    SYNOPSIS: The reigning Commonwealth Featherweight Boxing champion Evan Armstrong of Scotland defended his title against Ghanaian boxer, David Poison, at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. For Poison, the match was a chance to become the third black man to hold the title -- if he won. Poison, holder of the newly created African Featherweight crown, is relatively unknown outside the African continent and Australia. And he wanted this chance badly to prove his prowess. This was the tenth and final round.

    Evans took a mandatory eight count in the second round and spent the rest of the fight on the defensive. he was bruised and bleeding form a cut on his forehead in the seventh round and a cut lip in the ninth. But he was still trying hard to hold on to his title. Poison, on the other hand, was becoming more aggressive. He had a proud record of winning thirty-two fights.

    Poison tasted defeat only once when he lest to an Australian. But he said, while there he won nine out of the ten fights he had with Australians.

    Poison, who's real name is David Kotei, is now the new Commonwealth Featherweight Boxing Champion. He may defend his crown against Britain's Jimmy Revie. Poison said this was the last step to his ambition -- the world crown.
