    In Egypt, the stage is set for a week of festivities, celebrating the first anniversary of the fourth and fiercest war against Israel. The celebrations begin on Saturday (5 October) and conitnue for five days.

    However, the main day of the week will be Sunday (6 October) - the date the war was launched last year.

    Preparations for the celebrations have been under way for some time. For days, Army, militia and school military units have been drilling in Cairo to be in peak performance during the plethora of parades and special events organised for the celebrations. In addition, the Air Force has held rehearsal fly-pasts daily in preparation for the major parade on Sunday, to be attended by top Egyptian officials, including President Anwar Sadat.

    The schoolboys in this film are aged from 16 to 81 years, and attend secendary schools in the Cairo area.

    Morale is high in Egypt, with the approach of the anniversary. The Arabs feel that since the October war, which they believe dented Israel's apparent military invincibility, their international esteem has increased considerably. And, the oil weapon has thrust them into the spotlight as a new world force.

    However, on the eve of the celebrations, President Sadat told a Western correspondents he was confident that peace in the Middle East could be achieved.
