    THE AMERICAN ENTERTAINER, JOSEPHINE BAKER ANNOUNCED IN PARIS YESTERDAY (MONDAY) THAT KING HASSAN OF MOROCCO HAD SAVED HER MULTI-RACIAL CHILDREN'S HOME IN FRANCE. THE 59-YEAR-OLD SINGER WHO FLEW IN FROM CASABLANCA SAID THAT KING HASSAN GAVE HER 30,000 FRANCS (GBP2,190 STERLING).

    BALIFFS WERE TO HAVE SEIZED THE CHATEAU, WHERE MISS BAKER HOUSES ELEVEN CHILDREN OF MANY NATIONALITIES, AND SELL IT BY AUCTION UNLESS SHE SETTLED A 20,000 FRANC DEBT (GBP1,540 STERLING) BY NOVEMBER 5TH.

    THE CHATEAU IS IN THE SMALL VILLAGE OF LES MILANDES, WHERE MISS BAKER HAS BOUGHT UP A NUMBER OF OTHER BUILDING AND BUILT A HOTEL, TWO RESTAURANTS, A SWIMMING POOL, SMALL ZOO, MODEL FARM AND A LARGE PLAYGROUND. THE COST OF THIS REBUILDING IS ONE OF THE MAIN REASONS FOR THE DEBTS WHICH HAVE BEEN FACING THE HOME.

    IT IS THE CHATEAU THAT MISS BAKER LIVES WITH HER ELEVEN ADOPTED CHILDREN. THE CHILDREN ARE AKIO (KOREA) JARRY (FINLAND) MARIANE (ALGERIA) MOISE (ISRAEL) LUIS (COLOMBIA) MARA (VENEZUELA) JEANNOT (JAPAN) BRAHIM (NORTH AFRICA) KOFFI (IVORY COAST) JEAN-CLAUDE AND NOEL, BOTH FRENCH.
