Background: A Soviet Communist Party delegation led by Mr. Boris Ponomaryov began talks with leaders of Syria's ruling Baath Party in Damascus on Saturday (21 JUNE) on the conclusion of a co-operation protocol for 1975 and 1976.
Official sources said they discussed the development of relations between the two parties.
The soviet delegation arrived in Damascus on friday for a four-day visit at the invitation of the baath Party.
The delegates included Mr. Vladimir Vinogradov, head of the Soviet delegation to the Middle East Peace conference in Geneva. Mr. Vinogradov visited Jordan and Lebanon earlier this year for talks with Jordanian and Palestinian leaders on the prospects of resuming the peace conference.
SYNOPSIS: Syria's ruling Baath Party played host to a delegation from the Soviet Communist Party visiting Damascus over the weekend. The delegates were headed by Mr. Boris Ponomaryov. On Saturday, the two parties began talks covering the development of relations between the two parties.
