    M/S of lots of people crowded together in a field, a man throws the football into the crowd and they all run after it. L/S of them fighting for the ball, various shots as they run across fields and into the river.

    Intertitle - 'shopkeepers take no chances at Chester-le-Street.' M/S of a man holding the ball on a balcony, people are trying to climb up the sides of the shops to get it, he throws it back into the crowd. L/S aerial view as they run around the streets.

    Title here - Shrovetide football. Whole town takes part in game which has no rules and whose origin is lost in mists of our ancient history. Ashbourne, Derbyshire.
