• Short Summary

Construction of self-built houses at Dedworth near Windsor; we see inside a finished house.

  • Description

    Dedworth near Windsor, Berkshire.

General view panning across a row of 20 new houses, built by the people who will occupy them. Several shots of a small party going on outside the last of the houses to celebrate the house being handed over to Mr and Mrs Young. Secretary of the Windsor Self-Build Housing Association, Mr Rogers, hands a letter to Mrs Young. Everyone raises their glasses as Mrs Young goes inside, carrying her small son.

Several shots of men working on the construction of the houses. Good shots of building work. Among those seen are Reg Norley, Mr Doe, Mr Linton, Mr Bigsby and Mr Collerton..

Inside one of the chalet bungalows we see Mrs Olive Norley and her family in their kitchen and living room. Olive reaches into the built-in larder to fetch something. Four-year-old Debbie turns on the radiator. Her Dad checks the boiler. In the living room Debbie and her brother, Paul, sit at their mother's feet while she knits. Reg Norley sits on the arm of Olive's chair. Nice domestic scenes.
