• Short Summary

The de Havilland Canberra, with its folding wings, ready for commercial and passenger flights.

  • Description

Item title reads: "1927 - Aviation's Record Year. Latest marvel is the de Havilland "Canberra" 6-seater ordered for Australia, carrying load of 1,9000 lbs. Luggage, goods or mail, first commercial plane with folding wings."

    No place name

A line of 5 or 6 people climb into a de Havilland DH.61 Giant Moth aircraft up some wooden steps. The wings have been folded back to access the side passenger door. Next, some men are seen loading some trunks into the side door, manhandling them quite roughly. They are large travelling trunks. The plane taxis away and the pilot can be seen in a cock pit on the outside. On the airfield, a man demonstrates the folding back of the wings, first one side, then the other, with a final shot of the plane, wings back, ready for the hangar.

The aircraft seen is a de Havilland DH.61 Giant Moth, Reg. No. G-EBTL, named "Canberra".
