    Various shots of the rocket Pioneer IV on the launching pad with platforms still round the top bathed in lights. Men work on preparations for the launch. Liquid oxygen vapour billows around the base. A man stands by open doors, sign over them reading "Liquid Oxygen". Pipes run along the ground emitting vapour.

    At Jodrell Bank in Cheshire, England, we see brief shot of the radio telescope that will be tracing the rocket's journey into space.

    Back at Cape Canaveral we the rocket about to take off. The first flames appear at the base and erupt suddenly, hiding the rocket from view. The rocket takes off and starts to climb, going out of picture. General view of cameramen filming the red flare in the distance. The rocket climbs up into space.
