Tragic Speedway Crash into Crowd

Penrith Speedway in Australia 1938 was the scene of a horrible accident which was caught on Pathe cameras. The film shows a car losing control and skidding into a crowd of spectators. Bodies are thrown in to the air like rag dolls. A woman and two grandchildren were killed in the accident and 10 others were injured.

In the film you can see the spectators are actually sitting in front of the safety fence and people leap over the fence to aid the injured. It was for this reason that the Penrith Speedway company was completely exonerated at the inquest because there were signs telling spectators to stand behind the safety fence but sadly many people didn't.
