9 January marks the 60th Anniversary of the Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser opening construction on the Aswan Dam, when he detonated dynamite which removed 20 tons of granite, breaking ground on the site. The dam was completed, barring the Nile, on 21 July 1970.
