Unused / unissued footage - dates and locations may be unclear or unknown.

Cuts from newsreel 49/50 - Marathon from Windsor Castle, Berkshire to Chiswick, London.

M/S of Princess Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II) walking past line of runners in grounds of Windsor Castle. M/S of Princess Elizabeth being shown the trophy. Elizabeth shakes hands with some of the competitors and chats to them. M/S of Elizabeth chatting to AEH Winter, Honorary Organising Secretary.

General view of the runners crossing the quadrangle of Windsor Castle. L/S pan as runners leave Windsor Castle at the start of the marathon. L/S of runners coming down Windsor Main Street with castle in background. Crowds line the streets. Natural sound for some of these shots. Various shots of race in progress - the runners make their way along country roads. M/S of Jack Holden (the eventual winner) and another contestant in the lead. Shots of Holden running.

C/U of Holden speaking after the race (natural sound) with a suit jacket over his shoulders. He says he couldn't say he enjoyed the race - anybody who says they enjoyed a marathon is lying. All he did was to follow Hemming as he was the man he had to beat, and when he saw Hemming was tiring he went into the front and carried on - "that's all there is to it".

    Sound is intermittent.
