  • Short Summary

A feature film about the voyage of a Windjammer with excellent documentary shots of the ship travelling the Oceans in all weathers.

  • Description

Cloudy skies, a storm coming. The ship sails on. Below decks the Captain plots his course. On the map we see his journey from Australia, passed New Zealand, and well on his way to Cape Horn at the Southern tip of South America. Evening and men are in the rigging pulling in the sails and securing them. They work out on the spars with the sea below. Our hero is on the wheel. Topside the men climb the rigging. The ships bell is rung.

Below decks two men play draughts. The suspended table rocks about. The nude photos are on the deck. The sea gets rougher. The table swings more. POV Forwards, the ship is rising and falling. Inter cutting between below decks cabin activity and shots of the sea washing over the decks. Water pours into the cabin. Men come below deck in their wet oils. A crewman starts to play his mouth organ, some of the men sing along. Suddenly they all leave the cabin.

On deck there is great activity, men climbing the rigging, pulling on ropes, furling the sails topside, and the sea rising and falling as the ship rides the waves. Diary entry reads " 60th day. Inch by inch round Cape Horn." Sunset through the rigging. " 61st day. No sun - but round at last." A gull flies over the sea. Below decks the table rocks. POV from the deck as the sun rises above the silhouetted sail.
