  • Great film, but if I made add a correction to the text. The statue represents a woman (a peasant woman) not a man. The name of the statue is Nahdet Masr (The Awakening of Egypt). She is unveiling her face. This is probably commemorating the 1919 revolution, where women such as Huda Shaarawi and Safeyya Zaghlul (wife of Saad Zaghlul) were in revolt and unveiling their faces in a similar gesture. The statue still stands to this day in Cairo and is of great symbolism to the country.
