The crash occurred on 11 January 1938.
The aircraft shown is the "Samoan Clipper", a Pan American Airways Sikorsky S-42 flying boat.
"Captain Edwin Musick (sp?)" - yes, this is the correct spelling.
"Sacks (of mail?)" - this was a mail flight, so yes they are sacks of mail.
All 7 crew on board died in this tragedy.
Part 2 - Montana
The crash occurred on 10 January 1938.
The plane involved was a Lockheed 14 Super Electra.
Note that actually 8 passengers AND 2 crew were killed.
