Intertitle reads: "Somehow, Eastern scenes appeal to westerners - perhaps the contrast in dress and customs may be responsible".

Good M/S of Japanese women and children walking towards the camera. There are some young Japanese men but mostly women and children. The children look at the camera. "Japan has specialised on home industries and as befitting the land of the Rising Sun, they're making sunshades here." M/S of elderly woman seated on a mat making a parasol. She is seen from behind. Camera pans left to show a man sitting with his back to her also working on a parasol. Closer shot of the man as he glues paper to the struts of the parasol. C/U of another man painting Japanese symbols on the parasol. "Why shouldn't we adopt wooden shoes a la Japanese - perhaps they'd reduce the cost of footwear." M/S of two men sitting cross legged on a mat making shoes. One of the men smiles and laughs.

M/S of a Japanese shop selling shoes. An elegant woman sits on a bench and tries on a pair. "Aren't they just cute? Size 1 is not in our line, though!" Good C/U of the woman putting on the shoes - just feet and bottom of kimono visible. "Machinery is scarce, yet most beautiful artificial flowers grow in the nimble fingers of these girl workers." M/S of three women kneeling at a table making fake flowers. C/U of one of the women working. She laughs. "But, east or west, the kiddies are just the same - they've all got the same sweet tooth!" Large number of children queue up for some strange lollipops which are prepared by a grown up with a kind of hot dog stall type outdoor contraption. Some of the young boys have military helmets on. C/U of three of the children eating their lollipops.
