Strand Theatre. "The tense scene when the Prisoner, accused on circumstantial evidence, is tried for murder - the only link missing being the revolver which fired the fatal shots - " High angle shot of courtroom set. Camera pans to show judges. M/S of actor playing a barrister making a speech. C/U of actress (not named) in the witness box. She looks distraught. She makes a passionate speech, holding out her arms and then holding her head in anguish. M/S of the judges. "And inexorably the Judge sums up - and the jury retire - - " High angle shot showing the people in the court in discussion. The bible is held up. The jury leaves the court.

"Two hours later - - " The jury come back into court. The spokesman of the jury stands up and gives their verdict. "Guilty, my - Lord!" Two of the women in the jury dab their noses with hankies. M/S of man in dock camera pans to show other actors. M/S of the judge. M/S of the accused man making a passionate speech. "I swear before God I am not guilty of this crime - !" He holds his head in his hand. M/S of the judge looking unmoved. Another man comes in and places the "death cap" on the judge. He makes a speech. "..mercy on your soul." "And then the climax - the confession - and suicide of the real criminal - with the missing revolver." A man runs forward in the court then collapses. C/U of the gun beside his hand, another hand picks it up. C/U of the accused man and the woman seen in the witness box embracing. They kiss, a hand is placed on his shoulder.

Note: I have been unable to find "The Balance" in my theatrical reference books. Presumably this was a scene supposedly in The Old Bailey. Actors and actresses are not named in intertitles and not recognised by this cataloguer. Dated from stock mark.
